After a little thinking and being around a lot of people that know nothing about knives I think the name “Gent’s Knives” is a bit misleading. They should be called “lady and Gent’s Knives” From the BoseKnives Catalog a Gent’s Knife is this. This is a 3" single (ATS-34) blade trapper, Green Bone, double bomb shield. There are a lot of these in circulation. I heave heard stores that Tony would send out 10 of these at time to certain dealers. The price at that time was $175 and they would sell like hot cakes. When I came on the scene they cost a little more, not much luckily. Reese was selling them for $50 less and I was able to purchase this little guy for $175. Actually I think the “Gent’s Knife” has evolved into any knife (one or two blade) that’s 3” or under. So a Gent’s Knife could be a Trapper, SwayBack,…CoffinJack…and the Peanut.

Here is a shadow gent’s in the same pattern. This little freebie in D-2 from Reese was made and carried by him to see how Micarta would hold up without stainless liners. I was at a show and one morning and he just handed it to me and asked me to field test it…..I did It's amazing how well the miacrta holds up. (the Micarta is even milled like he would stainless liners)

More to come and you are welcome It's interesting to notice how thin or slim that first shadow was made. He may have made it wider, like the one in your pic, to use that washer on the pivot pin.
btw...the samllest Gents knife I have seen is 2 1/4"...swayback in pearl
It was light as air. Tony told me,recently, that he made one like mine, but a two blader,a warny & clip,in that 2-5/8" size.Pearl scales The way he said it,it was as if he himself was surprised he made it He says its out there, and through the Bose Grapevine,I heard Oklahoma, possibly That lil' stag is real nice John, -Vince

I have a question, and maybe it is not really a legit one. I have heard that Tony refers to the 3-1/4" single swayback, like the one I posted,as a "Swayback Gent knife",and a two blade version,a "Swayback Jack",but I've only seen the 2 blade in the 3-5/8" size Would a 2 blade 3-1/4" Swayback,be called a "Swayback Gents Jack"? I'm not trying to be a wiseguy either.Any chance on a picture of such a knife? Thanks John, great thread. -Vince
I have only focused on slip joints now for the last couple of years and there seems to be a lot of wiggle room when it comes to what knives are called.
For instance, when a knife has 2 blades and they pivot on the same end it's called a "jack knife". But there are specialized jack knives like trappers, electricians, etc. Still, they are jack knives. Just a little confusing when you are trying to learn stuff
So, what the heck do you call a knife that was a jack knife with 2 blades and you take away a blade? It's not really a jack knife any more. I think that is why Tony calls a "swayback jack pattern" with a single blade a gents knife. That's the way I see it but what the hell do I know.

I'd like to see one John,I bet it is a real wonder. I agree about the trapper, too. It is really kinda hard to beat that.I'm carrying a T Bose WT shadow for edc /work,and rotating a Reese WT with bone,on lighter duty days, lately moreso. But you know us knifenuts,no matter how perfect the pattern,we're always looking around the corner. The Bose knives are all truly fantastic, this is a great Forum, -Vince

It is.....but you need to see that knife in person.. A scan just doesn't cut it...not even a "KerryShot" would really get the full effect.

STOP ALREADY, PLEASE...!!!! Enough. I give up. No more, no more. Seeing those knives has made me hungry, envious, nervous, crazy, and horny... I'm going now to hold one of my 440V babies and think it is the only one that exists. John, Juan, the same name, the same nuts.

Sweet Jesus. That's the best looking knife I've ever seen. I mean that. I'm humbled. Do you own that knife? If you do, my hat's off to you. Congratulations.
I'll work on taking better pictures to do justice to the Bose's knives. Your pictures are something else. Would you please post some more?
I'm writing Juan for John. You're John, I'm Juan. Just being silly.

I'm no match to John. I'm less than little leagues. But the knife on the att. has a neat story. To summarize it a great deal, I had to travel to the Atlanta show in 2001, to pick it up. Professor Tony says: You want it, you come get it in Atlanta. And meself goes gets it in Atlanta. So there I am in Atlanta, not overly interested in knives other than the ones from Wilfred, I walk around and around like everyone else does at the show, and end up at the table of this very nice man who is engraving knives. Stupid, ignorant me gets to watching the guy work, and we get to talking and I end up giving him the knife for engraving the bolsters. The engraving is fair, I guess, and it brings back great memories, but I love my Wilfred knives just the way they come from the bench. Anyways, thanks for reading.

EDC...? Me don't know what EDC mean. Anyways, yes, the knife (and the Pelican) is mine. Is the first knife Prof. Tony built for me. It's got Micarta scales. I had it in my pocket for years. Until recently, really, as now I carry the single blade trapper everywhere. I won't elaborate on the "everywhere".

Well, that little knife has been in my right front pocket for several years. I've used it for anything and everything including skinning pecari (a small tropical boar like pig), deer, ducks...
It's the first knife that Mr. Bose made for me. I had asked an old friend, Bill Keeton, to make a folding knife for me. Bill makes wonderful fixed blade knives and he's made a few for me, all hunting knives. Folders are not Bill's specialty so, being the good friend he is he told me to contact his friend Tony Bose.
I wanted a do it all little knife to keep in my pocket. Before then, I only had fixed blade knives which I used for hunting, and the odd Buck folder. Thus, I ordered Micarta scales. Of course, now I wish I had ordered stag scales for that baby.
Anyhow, that little knife is a champ and I wouldn't get rid of it for half of Fort Knox.
