I am considering getting a Model 11 3" for a hunting knife. Does any one here use one? How does it do for you? What options do you think would be good to have add to it? Thanks 29R

I would get a wrist thong and a compass if available. Always good to have a compass in the woods!

I bought my #2 son a #11 3 inch quite a few years ago now. He really likes it as a skinner. It holds an edge very well. I am thinking of getting one for myself one of these days.

I think it depends on what you are hunting and cleaning, and if your hunting knife may ever need to be more than just that. I had a 11-3 and loved it. Great for smaller animals; However, I like something a little bigger for deer size game. I use a model 5-5 for deer hunting and general camp use and I think a 3-5 is also a good choice. Sure, a model 11-3 with a sharp edge will gut and skin any animal, but again - I like to have a little more edge to work with, and a little more backbone... regardless, find the one that is right for you and you'll have a friend for life.

My son has skinned probably a dozen deer (mulies and whitetails) with it, along with 2 moose and a bear. It will stay sharp for several deer or one moose. It peels bears on par with my #23. For a general camp knife, he use #25 5 inch or one his Bowies (Nordic or Sportsman with a fighter gaurd).

While I like the #11 3 inch, it is on the small side for me too. I prefer my favorite #23 standard or my #22 with it maroon micarta.

Like you said - find the right one for you. The great thing about Randalls is all the nice choices.

Not great pics...but here's a couple of ideas. My #11-3" has done a dozen whitetails and a couple of hogs. Everyone else is finding the #11-3 too small..."BUT"...(There's that word again)...No one has addressed the fact that the handle is much more full and comfortable, especially for long usage. The larger diameter is perfect!

My boy's #11 3 inch has a great piece of stag on it. It is set up like the old Nordic Special. The gnarly stag makes a great grip.

As we all know, receiving a Randall as a gift is a great gift indeed. It is for Me.

This model 11-3 was a present to me from one of my long-time RMK customers. He started buying Randalls from me when He was an Ensign in the US Navy, and now He's a Captain (0-6). He just called Monday to have me ship a Model 28 to a Navy buddy in RI for Christmas.

Over the span of years, some two dozen friends have received a Randall military model.

He put my name on it so I wouldn't be tempted to sell it. Me? Its a keeper. Next to my Model 23, it's my favorite outdoors knife.

The last 11 I got said 3 1/4 inch. Are all of these you guys showed the same or are they only 3 inch? I haven't used mine but it looks like it would be a great skinning knife.
