Yes, Tom; I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't a chargeable option - it is - it's just not two options.

Any type of shaped handle would also count as a chargeable option, though. Since he's already at five, something else would have to go for that to happen.

Right you are Jeff,

That knife would be ordered with a #22 handle and you kind of save an option that way.

Thanks for the input. I'm just in the process of using my "one-time free" change order that I have directly with the shop. Here's what I settled on for the Big Bear:

Stainless Blade
Nickel Silver Forward Curved Hilt
"Rounded" Nickel Silver Butt Cap (sticking with the commando handle)
Black Micarta
Black/Metal Spacers
Waxed Brown Sheath

Now....I'd better get this in the mail before I change my mind again!

Thanks again all.

Doug,

That should be a real beauty. I love the blade lines on the Big Bear Bowie. I assume you want black & aluminum spacers, metal could mean aluminum or brass. The nickel silver butt cap should help balance the knife.

Good point Tom....yes, aluminum is the way I plan on going. Can't wait to see the finished product!

How about this one:

COMBAT COMPANION

Owner supplied "Black Palm" wood
Stainless Steel Blade
Single hilt
Saw teeth
Comando shaped handle
Wrist thong

That's fine, too . . . as long as it's a brass hilt. Note that there will be a $55 charge for providing your own wood.

No problem on the $55 charge. I know the single hilt will be brass. I had a hard time on deciding between a NS hilt or the wrist thong. Also wondered if I could get finger grips instead of the comando shape.

As soon as I'm done typing this I'll go through my limited reference material in search of the answer, that I'm sure many of you already know off the top of your head... Are sawteeth an available option on a No. 2?, maybe a 2-4? Has it ever been done?

Thanks!

It doesn't take a lot of "reference materials" to answer this one. Page 29 of the catalog: Sawteeth are "[a]vailable as an extra only on Models #1-6", 7", 8", #5-6", 7", 8", #14, #15, #16, and Combat Companion."

As far as whether it's ever been done, I'll let someone who knows more about the history of these knives answer that one. I'd sure be surprised if it's been done, though, as I can't see it having much practical value on that blade.
